CFN_______________Programs
[back to Center for Naturalism]
The Center for Naturalism sponsors and seeks to encourage programs that help disseminate naturalistic philosophy, that apply naturalism to personal and social concerns, and that help build a supportive community of naturalists. Our programs are listed below, but others might occur to you should you be of the naturalistic persuasion. In which case, you are strongly encouraged to communicate your ideas for ways in which naturalism can be concretely expressed and applied.
Analysis,
Policy Development and Research. The CFN conducts ongoing
analysis of issues and current events, produces policy papers
and proposals, and promotes research related to philosophical and applied
naturalism. For examples of
such work see the main page at
Naturalism.Org, Currents, Policy Papers and Proposals,
and Research.
CFN Forums. Public
talks on topics related to naturalism, both philosophical and
applied. See for instance the press releases for
Paul Bloom's appearance at the Harvard Science Center, and CFN director
Tom Clark's talk at New England College.
Outreach on
Naturalism.
The CFN campaign to promote naturalism includes letters to the editor,
op-ed
pieces, and presentations to local humanist and skeptic groups and UU
congregations.
Courses and Workshops on
naturalism. These introduce naturalism and its
implications, and explore special topics, policy issues and applications.
Philosophy Cafes. Informal
public gatherings to discuss philosophy, sponsored by CFN and local
bookstores, bars, and cafes. Note that CFN-sponsored philosophy cafes do
not directly promote naturalism, but the CFN is mentioned as a sponsor,
along with other sponsors. Want to start a cafe? Please
write.
Causality Club. Affinity groups focusing on naturalism, its
implications and applications. There are other naturalists out there, you
just have to dig them up. Boston area Causality Club is now meeting, inquire
here.
Guides to Naturalism. The project is developing age-appropriate materials on naturalism for kids, teens, and adults.
